Pimp My… Notizbuch-Hülle ~ Notebook Cover

 

Notizbücher… Es war ja schon immer so, dass ich die Teile eigentlich total toll fand. Bisher hatte ich nur selten Gelegenheit, eines (sinnvoll) zu führen. Jetzt als bloggende Dame gibt es endlich einen Grund! Meine Ideensammlungen und Inspirationsnotizen hatte ich vorläufig als losen Blätterhaufen auf dem Schreibtisch oder in unzähligen Handtaschen rumfliegen und wenn mir unterwegs etwas eingefallen ist, dann habe ich sogar schon Kassenzettel beschrieben… oh ja.

Diese Zeiten sind vorbei: Seit heute trage ich dieses wunderhübsche und höchstpersonalisierte Notizbuch mit mir herum. 

Notebooks… I’ve liked them forever, actually. But, there was rarely an occasion to need one (with a good reason). As a blogging madam now there’s finally a point in having one! I used to collect my ideas and inspirations on loose notes that were spread over my desk or in my countless handbags. When something came to my mind while I was on the road I even noted it down on receipts… oh yes. These times are gone: From today on I carry with me this wonderfully pretty and highly personalised notebook.

Bei Facebook und Google+ hatte ich ja schon ein kleines Foto gezeigt von meinem nächsten Projektchen in der Warteschleife. Der aufmerksame Follower wird hier wohl den Stoff wiedererkennen können. ;) Die Notizbuch-Hülle ist es also geworden! 

On facebook and Google+ I shared a little picture of my next project in queue. The attentive follower might recognise the fabrics. ;) So it turned out to be the notebook cover!

Nähanleitung und Schnittmuster, nach denen ich gearbeitet habe, kommen übrigens von Ina von pattydoo und sind superleicht umzusetzen. Das Video habe ich allerdings nicht geschaut, sondern mich an die geschriebene Anleitung von den Tchibo-Ideas gehalten und den Schnitt mit fester Breite gewählt. 

The tutorial and pattern I worked with are from Ina from pattydoo and were super easy to manage*. I didn’t watch the video, though, but kept to the written tutorial of her Tchibo ideas and I chose the non-variable pattern with one width. 

* I’m sorry for my English readers, but these posts and the tutorial are only in German. I didn’t dare to translate it because it’s not my tutorial.

Ein wenig habe ich die Hülle dann aber doch noch persönlich aufgepimpt, wie ihr oben schon sehen könnt.

Zum Schließen wollte ich nicht unbedingt das Webband benutzen und ständig ein Schleifchen binden müssen. Wenn man mal schnell an das Notizbuch ran muss oder es schnell wieder in die Tasche stecken will, dann fand ich das in dem Fall eher störend – auch, wenn es ansonsten eine hübsche Idee ist. Hier habe ich stattdessen ein 3 cm breites Band aufgenäht.
So geht's:
Einen Streifen Stoff auf 5 cm Breite zuschneiden (inkl. je 1 cm Nahtzugabe); die Länge entspricht der langen Seite für die Hülle. Links auf links zusammennähen und wenden. Vom Prinzip her habe ich das Band so aufgenäht, wie es in der Anleitung mit dem Webband beschrieben ist. Nur auf der Vorderseite habe ich es bündig anfangen lassen. Die Länge habe ich zum Schluss mit eingestecktem Buch so angepasst, dass man auch noch einen Stift einklemmen kann, und dann das Ende eingeschlagen und abgesteppt. Als Verschluss dient mir nun ein Kam Snap.

I didn’t want to use the ribbon to close and to always bowtie it. If you want your notebook to be opened quickliy or put it back into your handbag just as quickly I conciderd this rather annoying – though it looks absolutely lovely. I chose to stitch on a strap of fabric of 3 cm width instead.
Here's how:
Cut a fabric strap in 5 cm width (including 1 cm seam allowance on each side); the length matches the pattern’s length for the cover. Put the wrong sides together and stitch, then turn. In principle, I stitched this strap onto the cover like it is described with the ribbon in the tutorial. I just started to stitch it on where the ribbon should be, but started flush on the cover’s front. The actual length was determined in the end with the notebook in place so there is room for a pen, too. Fold the end to the inside of the strap and topstitch. A Kam Snap serves as a closure.

Außerdem habe ich den Außenstoff noch mit meiner Maschine bestickt. Das Motiv gibt’s hier übrigens als Freebie – es ist das Logo von Urban Threads, meiner absoluten Lieblingsseite für Stickdateien. Genau mein Ding, ich könnte einfach (fast) alles dort aufkaufen, wie ich ja schon kurz in anderem Zusammenhang hier und dort erwähnt und angedeutet habe.* :)

Jedenfalls passt dieses Logo gut zu einem Notizbuch, in dem ich alles mögliche zum Nähen und zum Blog festhalten möchte, finde ich.

Der eigene Name durfte natürlich auch nicht fehlen. Den habe ich mit einer implementierten Schriftart meiner Maschine aufgestickt. 

Besides that I embroidered the outer fabric with my embroidery machine. This file is available as a freebie here – it’s the Urban Threads logo which is my top page for embroidery files. They sell absolutely my cup of tea, there! I could buy (almost) everything from them like I mentioned a few days ago here or there in a different context.* :) Anyway, this logo fits very well to a sewing and blogging themed notebook, I think.

Of course, the name may not be missing either. I embroidered it with one of the included fonts on my embroidery machine.

Das eingelegte Notizbuch ist ebenfalls rot (gleich nach violett übrigens auch meine Lieblingsfarbe ;) ) und der rot-weiße Stoff eignet sich da meiner Meinung nach besonders gut. Gekauft habe ich diesen in einem Bastelladen in Bielefeld als 0,5m Stück. Da er als „Kreativstoff“ eh schon ein bisschen fester ist habe ich auf die Verstärkung mit Bügelvlies verzichtet und das Ergebnis ist wunderbar. Als Innenstoff habe ich den gleichen uni-roten Baumwollstoff verwendet, aus dem auch das Band genäht wurde.

Aufgeschlagen und von hinten sieht das Teil übrigens so aus: 

The notebook I inserted is red itself (by the way my next favourite colour besides purple ;) ) and the red and white fabric matched perfectly in my opinion. I bought it in a crafts store in Bielefeld as a piece of 0.5 metres. As “creativity fabric” it’s pretty stiff why I went without using interlining and the result is splendid. The inner fabric is the same plain red cotton as used with the closure strap.

Jetzt brauche ich nur noch einen schönen und passenden ROTEN Kugelschreiber und kann dann bei jeder Gelegenheit einfach dieses stolze Teil zücken und kritzeln. :) 

Now, all I need is a beautiful and matching RED ballpen and I can whip out this proud book and start doodling and scribbling on every occasion. :)

Übrigens… Als Katzenbesitzer hat man es nicht leicht, katzenfreie Bilder von irgendetwas zu  machen! Da das Licht in einem anderen Zimmer besser war, bin ich umgezogen – und die Katzen gleich mit. Das war ihnen dann ungewöhnlich genug, um gleich erstmal alles genau unter die Lupe zu nehmen… (Einschließlich der Kamera im letzten Bild.)

Bei Facebook und Google+ habe ich eines der Bilder ja schon als kleinen Buchhüllen-Teaser gezeigt, aber hier will ich sie euch auch nicht vorenthalten. Wie wir alle wissen, wurde das Internet ja eh nur erfunden, um süße Katzenbilder zu verbreiten!!! :)

By the way… As a cat owner it’s a hard job to take some cat free pictures of anything! I moved to another room because of better ligthing – and the cats came with me. That was unusual enough to them to start to examine everything veeeeery carfully… (Including the camera on the last picture.)

I already shared one of the pictures on facebook and Google+ to tease the book cover but I don’t want to keep them away from you here. Like we all know the internet was invented solely to spread cute kitty pictures across the world, anyway!!! :)

Nachdem Kater Jaime mir die Kamera weggetatzt hat musste erst einmal eine Runde gespielt werden... und dann durfte ich auch in Ruhe die Bilder zum Vorzeigen machen. ;)
